Etrian Odyssey 2: Heroes of Lagaard

Who's ready for the sequel to the hardest RPG I've ever played?

It seems that instead of going DOWN the giant forest, we'll be going UP this time.

Quote:
In the Grand Duchy of High Lagaard, it is said that the Duke is descended from inhabitants of a castle in the sky. When an unforeseen crisis befalls the nation, it is decreed that the first explorer to retrieve the Grail of Kings from that mythical floating palace will be rewarded with wealth and fame beyond imagining. Enter the central city of Lagaard and begin your journey to the clouds!
I'm interested in seeing how the new classes of Gunner, War Magus and Beast work.

I think the War Magus' abilities to drain enemies TP and the fact that it can heal the party, will make me have to return to town a lot less!

Yup. Definitely can't wait for this. I love you Atlus!

I only got about 3 or 4 levels into the first one before I lost interest, but it's a great game. It's always in the back of mind as something I want to play, but I never do (lately, all I've been playing is Shiren - amazing pick up & play dungeon hack, perfect for hand held gaming).

I'll probably snag this because it's both an Atlus game, and a handheld game, both tend to disappear faster than usual.

Same as Kronic, made it to the Alpha Wolf boss level (whatever that is) and just haven't put forth the effort to level up and survive that deep of a run. But I will...someday.

Although it's a different story with a new town, characters, classes and quest, the gameplay is essentially the same as the first.

Didn't notice any difference in how any of the stores in town work, registration and such is same as before and movement and battles seem to be the same as the first game. Just some new classes, items and quests so far, but really, I don't think anyone was expecting or asking for major changes to EO.

Just curious if anyone knows - do you have to finish the first game to import your party to the second game?

It's too late for me now anyway, cuz there's only one save and I'm up to level 11 (which is several hours of grinding ), but I just want to know.

I'm going with the Landsknecht and Ronin in the front, with a Alchemist, Medic and Gunner in the back. I don't really have any buffing or de-buffing, so that could be a problem down the road.

Since my X360 died I've been playing this a fair bit. Grinding is such a pain in this game (just like a MMO), but I found a good way to do it - just watch TV or a Movie at the same time - makes leveling fly by.

But, leveling and choosing what skills to upgrade is so much more rewarding in this game than most RPGs.
