GBA: Final Fantasy V

SO - who is picking up Final Fantasy V today for the GBA?

I have it pre-ordered, but im just gonna pick mine up wednesday when I get the Genessis collection for PSP and PS2.

I think the GBA remakes of FF I, II and IV are MUCH better than the PSOne editions...1,) they look better on the portable screen 2.) instead of badly compressed cutscenes, we get extra dungeons/items.

Next week ,its Final Fantasy III for the NDS!

A little off topic, but the Genesis Collection has been delayed for PSP, where it won't come out until the same day as Sonic Rivals.

Anyway, I'm definitely going to get FFV. I already own it on PS1 and beat it (I put 40 hours into it and mastered every single job). I probably won't do the same again, but I'm definitely going to play it.

As for the comparisons between the PS1 versions, here's my opinion:
FFI & II: Dawn of Souls is just as good as the PS1 version, maybe a little better.
FFIV is worse than the PS1 version, and definitely way worse than the SNES version (other than translation). My complaint with the GBA version has to do with some weird slowdown at times, and the soundtrack sounding really bad (especially when compared to the original). From what I hear, the soundtrack in FFV will be a lot better, since Square Enix didn't port it over, instead, they re-did the soundtrack for the GBA hardware.

Rarely post these days.

Mann - I just checked - at least I can still get my PS2 copy tomorrow.....

Why PSP and PS2? You know the classics are sexxy on the handheld, BUT this game just has too much console multiplayer action potential and many people I know have PS2's much more than have PSP's.

Also - Mana...I have played FF IV on the SNES and on th GBA, but not on my PSOne disk...I guess I havent noticed...

The GBA versions also win as you can guess what the games look like on an HDTV when played with my PS2/componant cables

One of the biggest reasons I got into FFIV (first RPG I got into) was because of the soundtrack (although as time went by, I was just big into RPGs in general). Many themes such as the main theme, Baron Castle theme, boss battle theme, regular battle theme, etc. just didn't sound as good IMO.

I understand. I was thinking of the same too, because I'd like to have it for PS2 to play multiplayer in Golden Axe. I want it for PSP since I greatly prefer playing classic compilations on PSP (due to smaller screen), and I could see myself playing PSIV and Sonic more on PSP (I badly want to play Sonic on PSP, since I already have SMC+ for PS2).

Just to note, the European version of FFIV Advance has a few bugs fixed and the slowdown mostly eliminated. I can still live with the game the way it is (the US version anyway), I liked some of the additions they made and the enhanced visuals were nice, it's easy to forget how basic the original version looked.

As for FFVA, I have it pre-ordered and I'll hopefully have it in time for the weekend, it isn't my favourite FF game but I'm just such a huge fan of Gilgamesh

I'd love to have FFIV and FFV on the GBA, but I'm going to wait for FFVI, my all-time favorite.

Same here - I luv it on PS2.....im not really caring about Sonic on the genessis colelction - for me its all about Phantasy Star II(with better bloody music than the GBA version please!), Alex Kidd, Altered Beasts, all goldexAxes, the other Phantasy Stars(II is still the KING), both Shinobi Games(Where is REVENGE of Shinobi? ), and of course SWORD OF VERMILLION!

also Baron Castle msuic on the SNES was brill...back then i had this little white cased colour TV I played SNES on(when the SNES came out) and it had a headphone jack - I was always rokkin FFII(SNES) with the headphones on - the music and the echo effects on the sounds was all great stuff.

VI is released in Japan next month, the US date shouldn't be far behind

Edit: Oh, and Gilgamesh is in it, he's been added as a new Esper

Yes it is. The only thing that really worries me is the soundtrack, since it definitely pushed the SNES to its limits and GBA sound quality isn't as good as SNES.

Very true.

Did any of you guys hear the rumor that the first six FF games are going to be put into a PSP compilation? I think it was EGM that talked about it; as awesome as that would be, I'll believe it when I see it. I'll likely buy the GBA one anyway...just in case.

I'm not really sure, but I would be extremely happy if that did ever come true.

I ended up buying FFVA last week, and now I'm strongly resisting the urge to play it...
