Nintendo: 21 million DS sold.

http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/24/ni...ems-worldwide/

Quote:
The Big N announced today in a press release that the company sold "more than 21 million DS systems" in less than two years since it was first released on November 21, 2004. Vying to follow if not outdo Apple's mp3 hottie, the iPod, Nintendo said, "by comparison, Apple shipped one million of its ever- popular iPod music players in its first 19 months."

Not too shabby

While that iPod thing isn't really fair, that's awesome news.
We should see some amazing stuff on the thing now that's it's hitting the GBA numbers.

We used to say, "let's play Atari," "Nintendo," or "Sega."
We don't play Microsoft and Sony. The Apocalypse!

Nor is it specific. Which version of the iPod? If they're referring to the very first model, then no shit they sold more. The original iPod was expensive as hell compared to any other mp3 player.

But back on topic, this really doesn't mean much since they're probably adding the DS Lite in there, too.

Whether the DSLite is added or not isn't the point. The point is that there have been over 20 million DS' sold worldwide. That's amazing for a system this young, this experimental, and has faced stiff opposition in the form of the PSP.

It's great news.

Great news. Nintendo proves that they still know their way around the handheld market.

With the DS selling so well, I can only imagine just how well the Wii will perform in its first couple of years.

Now Playing
DS - Henry Hatsworth
Wii - Wario Land: Shake It!
X360 - Fallout 3

Here's a hint:

Not nearly as well as the DS is doing.

Nintendo expects to sell 6 million Wii's by the end of March, 2007. Depending on when it comes out, you're looking at nearly a million units sold every month. That seems like a lot, but since we're looking at a global launch here during the holiday shopping season, I don't see why they can't achieve that end.

But that really doesn't have much to do with this topic.

iPod was also a whole lot more expensive at that time, Mac only, and MP3's weren't really the monster they are today.

Sorry, but no. The DS Lite is a huge factor in the sales, whether you want to admit it or not. Sure, maybe the DS was selling like hotcakes, but everyone and their mother (just look at the members of this forum) had to go out and buy a DS Lite, even if they already had a regular DS.

WTF? are you talking about people buying both?

It counts a little but "huge"? No. Hell, I haven't gotten a DS lite.

As I said, it doesn't matter as far as Nintendo is concerned. 21 million is 21 million, no matter what the combination. Why the heck are you even trying to argue about this?

I think Sony said 17 million, but I don't know if that was sold or shipped.
