The Early Adopters

Seeing the Nintendo DS soaring so high right now makes me happy as hell. Something different becoming such a success warms the cockles of my heart. It also makes me think back to a couple of years ago when so many laughed at the design and the touch screen and called it a gimmick, let alone how many idiots said it would be killed off when the PSP came out. What say you now, naysayers? Yeah, that's right. [/War Room]

But how many of us believed in this machine from the very beginning?

I want to know how many of us actually bought a DS on November 21st, 2004. Stand up and be proud! Those of you who sold your DS for a PSP and back again are null and void.

I said the PSP would kill the DS many times but the reason I held off getting a DS was not for that reason. The reason was dang money. Also, if I get a DS Lite it will be after a long wait, also because of money.

I thought the PSP would dominate over the DS until it had to be withdrawn. I saw that the PSP had superior graphics and overall design (versus this garbage), but then the DS got some games and now it has a lot and the PSP only got a few in its lifetime...heh.

But no, I didn't get a DS at launch. Wasn't going to get a PSP either. I was just watching, but eventually I had to get a DS once I saw the light.

Wow this thread is already starting with the same old PSP bullshit.

But to answer the question, I didn't believe in it from the beginning. A couple of my friends got one and they werer pictochatting with each other in class, and I thought that was pretty nifty. Of course, I'd never beaten Mario 64, so to get the chance to finally do that was pretty nice. Although I still haven't beaten that damn game, lmfao.

Well, I didn't get mine on exactly November 21st as I had to wait a bit seeing as I was importing from the US but dammit, I was there within the first week and to make up for it, I imported a Japanese Lite as soon as I could

I had not approved the purchase of the DS when my brother bought the thing on the day it came out. I just felt that it wasn't so important to get it so soon; it just wasn't a necessary item at the time (this especially considering the system's mediocre launch). I wanted to wait for bundles, or at least some different colors, or something, just because I knew we'd be offered different kinds of packages as time went on.

It was exciting, I'll admit, but I still felt that it wasn't the most necessary purchase to make; I was actually still playing plenty of GBA games around that time. However, I became more enthusiastic about the DS when games like WarioWare: Touched! and Kirby: Canvas Curse made their debut.

Wii - Wario Land: Shake It!
X360 - Fallout 3

Well, I don't exactly fit in with either one really. I at first wanted to hold off purchase of the DS because I didn't think the launch was all that impressive, but then I realized I just couldn't control myself.

I liked playing Mario 64 again, I liked the new levels and stars, and especially the mini games. I loved Feel the Magic. Also, I thought it was a much better way of playing my GBA games.

However, I still thought the PSP was going to destroy it right out of the gate. I figured that's where all the developers would go and that it would really be what changed the handheld gaming market.

I voted that I saw the light since I did buy it at launch, but it's a tough call.

"Life" is nothing but a sentence.... so why do I continue to choose to serve it?

I'll admit I was one of the people who thought it was a gimmick. However I never had any doubt it would be a hit. Nintendo has never had a handheld that failed. I'm going to get one at the end of the year. Hve they really used the duel touch screen all that much.

The duel-screen and touch-screen features have proven themselves to be innovative and fun, when put to good use by the developers. The games that use the touch screen prominently are some of the best on the system, and the same goes for the duel-screens. Sure, not every game will use them in the same way, or put as much focus into them, but that's the way it is. This system in many ways will be just a new GBA, which I have no problem with. Still, the DS is far past its early stages, so I'm ready to welcome more touch-screen and duel-screen friendly games for it.

I wasn't sure what to think of it when it came out, and I dissed it when the PSP was about to come out because teh superi0r grphics are teh win111!!!!.

I got my psp and was promptly underwhelmed by the game selection (but satisfied with the graphics). I eventually sold the psp and got the DS about the time Animal Crossing came out, because at that point I thought it was finally worth it based on the games.
I think the psp has enough cool games now, but it still costs too much and tries to do to many things instead of focusing just on games.

I recently got the improved DS Lite, and it is great. The winner.

I bought it right out the gate, and supported it with imported software while North America went through a slight drought.

However, I never thought right away that "The DS will totally pwn the PSP." But at the same time, I didn't want to believe that the PSP would have a chance to destroy the DS. I kept my mouth shut, smiled, and hoped things would turn out rosey.

I guess it did looking at the great DS sales, but this summer has been sort of dry for me, software-wise.

I still don't know that I believe in the hardware or the design. But I believe in the games.
