I think there are still problems with the GOP. Clearly the NY Congress election signaled that the GOP doesn’t know how to deal with the Tea Party wing. A wing, that WILL NOT, win them many (if any) elections.
In the Bush salad days days of the GOP, each faction -religious and small gov't- was willing to get sell out a little to get the power. The TPs don't have that in them. It could change by '10 but I have my doubts. They seem more interested in publicity stunts more than anything else.
A lot of GOP pundits are swaggering around putting the Blue Dog Dems on notice today. They could just as easily be talking to moderate Republicans.
for the Dems, it a little hard to read. It's an off-off year election and the Prez has all he can handle as it is. While it is easy to say that Obama star power faded, this election doesn't really prove that either way. Other issues Obama has faced show this much better. 2008 showed the power of getting all kinds of people out to vote to don't otherwise. The Dems have to replicate this on a smaller scale to brunt any potential loses in 2010. But I don't think it will be as bad for the Dems as everyone is already predicting.
